Pilates is a low-impact exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates to aid rehabilitation and improve movement. Originally called Contrology, it focuses on controlled, mindful movement that builds strength, flexibility, balance, and core stability.
At the heart of Pilates is the “powerhouse” — the core — which supports everything from posture to daily movements like walking, sitting, and lifting. A strong core enhances balance, supports joint mobility, and reduces the risk of injury.
Today, many physiotherapists and osteopaths recommend Pilates for pain management and recovery, thanks to its gentle yet effective approach.
